Getting Ready for The Holiday Season - Now!

By Lorraine Arams

Why Now?

We wait. And then we're stressed.

It's not like we didn't know they were coming. We did,

They happen every year.

Every year it's the same - frazzled people - why?

It doesn't have to be that way.

Now is the time to plan it all out so you can get the most enjoyment out of the entire period from October to January.

Plan It All Out

Holidays and celebrations involve a lot of people - friends, family, work colleagues, neighbors. Some people live quite a distance from you.

In your own household, get ready. That's where it counts. If you spend time with relatives or friends during the various holidays, talk about what you will be doing now. If everyone is involved in the planning, then everyone is on the same page. Once that happens, the ease with which you can plan your time offers relief from "I don't know what's going on" - you'll know and plan accordingly.

You might just spur everyone else involved to do the same.

The key here is to know what you're doing -

The Glory of Being Ready!

Every Single Holiday

Hallowe-en ---- Thanksgiving ---- Christmas Eve ---- Christmas Day ---- Boxing Day ---- New Year's Eve --- New Year's Day

Make a list for each holiday - what you'll need to do. For instance, for Hallowe'en, you may need to buy costumes, Hallowe'en candies, invite people to a party, prepare for the party, etc. Make a list. Do the same for each of the other holidays.

Now, that you have all the lists of everything you want to do for every holiday, enter these lists into your schedule.

Work backwards from the date of the holiday. For Hallowe-en, October 31st, what are the final preparations you need to do - schedule them in. Now, schedule in what you need to do the day before and the day before that - keep it up until your enitre list is in your calendar.

Now do the same with all the other holidays.

Peace, love and sharing

Enjoying the Holiday - Perhaps for the First Time

Peace of mind. You're ready. You know what you are doing when and you have all the dates booked with everyone who will be involved.

Perhaps for the very first time in your life, you'll enjoy the holidays. Tired but not frazzled. Smiling with a sense of wonder. The holidays connect people. They are a time when we connect and think of others - a time of sharing, loving, and telling people we care about how much they mean in our lives.

It's a time of color - a time when we are at our human best - and we all dream the same dream - a world at peace enveloped by all the beauty our earth has to offer.

Drink it all in as much as you dare. You've got the time this year!

How does that saying go? The best laid plans of mice and men..... Most of us, well many of us write ourselves a note in July that says prepare for Christmas, stick it on the fridge, when the New Year arrives we take it off, never having accomplished our goal of panic free shopping.
