Live in an apartment? No balcony? Love roses?

Here's how to have roses in your apartment - all the beauty, color and splendor of such a beautiful flower - miniature roses!

They're very beautiful, don't take up a lot of space and a great way to have the beauty of flowers in your apartment despite the limited amount of space you have - you can even color coordinate them with your decor! There are yellow ones, red ones, peach ones, white ones, pink ones - and so many in-between!

Decorating with natural plants in apartments can be a challenge sometimes because so many plants are so large. However, the miniature rose bush is ideal! It gives you the benefits of having plants: increased oxygen in your space, absorbing CO2 gases - essentially, "cleaning your air", a living thing in your space, and color.

As you know, plants take in CO2 gases and give you back oxygen. Oxygen is so important to good health - the cleaner the air, the less your body has to work to get the oxygen it needs to breath and work properly. It's a really good thing to have properly cared for plants in your living space - the benefits are phenomenal!

So much of our spaces at home and at work are concrete and artificial. Natural fiber carpets and furniture coverings are the exception now instead of the norm. I guess you could say we live in a "fake" environment. Adding a few plants to your space adds living things. Why do people like to go to parks or beaches or forests? Because there is a connection with other living things! So why not bring some living things into your space for every day connection and the benefits from that connection?

Decor - your living room is one color and your bedroom another - what could match? Miniature roses. They come in all colors and the aroma is so wonderful - a natural perfume!

Here is some information about these plants:

a) they range in sizes from 9 inches high to 18 inches high. This means they can be a fit for any size of space.

b) for people who love gardening, the care is similar to that of caring for the larger, outdoor variety - pruning, watering, feeding and for those people who don't like gardening so much, it's still very minimal care

c) they bloom about every two months. This gives you green in-between flowerings and a wonderful burst of color regularly - what a fabulous plant!

d) if you have a space that offers maximum light - near a window, preferably south facing - and adequate humidity, then your chances of having wonderful indoor flowers is tremendous

How do I give them adequate humidity?

By placing the potted plants on a bed of pebbles. A waterproof tray about 2 inches deep + 1 inch of gravel in the tray, keeping the water level just below the top of the gravel at all times. Misting flowers with hand sprayer will help too.

How do I do pruning?

It's easy with miniature roses. All you realy need to do is remove dead and sickly growth and trim to shape with a simple pair of scissors.

What soil do I use? How do I fertilize the roses?

There are special soils sold specifically for roses - you can find it at any plant store or Home Depot. Fertilizers are the same - there are special ones for roses. You use very little fertilizer; it lasts a long time.

Once you have these miniature plants in your apartment, you'll just love them! It's a wonderful addition to any space and brightens your day every day!

Anyone have additional tips?
